OUT OF THE SHADOWS
The protagonists of this reading group represent a change achieved through their art and their social and political commitment. Women who have embodied a paradigm shift and therefore serve as examples, models to emulate or compare oneself to. Strong-willed women, but also accomplished poets, writers, excellent administrators, and thinkers of great depth. We will read stories of women who have changed the rules, opened new paths, and embodied an idea of womanhood that has long been culturally overlooked but deserves to be narrated out of the long-standing shadow. Our idea is to be a journey of discovery of these female shadows.
Our journey will have several stops in as many stations that metaphorically represent the women we will encounter. The “common thread” linking the theme of the station and the woman emerges mainly as a narrative of overcoming stereotypes, professional emancipation, and active presence in historically male-dominated fields. The points of contact: their strength, their courage, their ideas in motion.
WOMEN OUT OF THE SHADOWS — WOMEN WHO CHANGED THE RULES
Introducing Camille Claudel to an art reading group means telling the story of an extraordinarily talented sculptor, often overshadowed by her own tragic biography. The aim is to shift the focus away from her role as “Rodin’s muse” toward her autonomous and innovative artistic identity.
